It’s been quite a ride for Sandy and Amy Lou Abernethy and they show
no sign of stopping. They started their video production company,
Abernethy Media Professionals (AMP), over their garage. Then they
moved to several rented studio spaces. Now in their own building with a
brand new studio, Sandy and Amy Lou along with a devoted team of
talented producers, editors, and videographers are winning awards and
accolades from clients and critics alike.
Film industry veterans, Sandy is an award
winning director and director of
photography while Amy Lou, a Dallas native
and graduate of the University of North
Texas, produces and writes. They started
their business in 1998. One division
provides crews and equipment for
broadcast and corporate television,
shooting all over Texas and across the
southwest. Networks such as Comedy
Central, HBO, Fox, ESPN and CNN, use
AMP to provide the best local talent to crew
their productions.
AMP also produces script-to-screen corporate videos for an enviable client list that includes
Brinker International, Cici’s Pizza, Regus, FedEx/Kinko’s and many others. They have won
countless awards, including work for FedEx/Kinko’s that was honored with an ASTD Citation
for Excellence (American Society for Training & Development). AMP does script-to-screen,
concept–to-completion video production.
“We produce brand relevant employee communication as well as marketing video for use at
trade shows, for recruiting, for franchisees, and other uses. We build long-term partnerships
with our clients across all their marketing platforms so that we have a thorough brand
understanding and accurate communication across the board. We immerse ourselves in the
client’s culture and work to keep on message across the company. We are brand
ambassadors internally and externally with internal marketing as our focus,” says Amy Lou.

A survey of AMP’s clients resulted in comments like, “They
are flexible and responsive way beyond their competitors,”
and “They have all the bases covered. They understand
what we are trying to communicate,” and “They forced us
to a new level with their professionalism. I value their
consultative approach.”
AMP added a third division when the Veria
Network, seen locally on Dish Network’s channel
9575 hired them to produce Simply Beautiful.
The television show explores the world of natural
beauty and fashion focusing on the healthy and
natural alternatives to chemically-based beauty
products along with the latest in organic fabrics
and sensible clothing designs.
asked to produce a second season. They are currently producing several new programs, including Whatta
Ya Think?! a game show where contestants compete to solve fast-paced puzzles and quizzes. The show is
part of a trend towards maintaining the mind the same way we work to maintain our bodies and is part of a
growing industry as baby boomers and video gamers grow up. Also in production are two 26-episode
series: Empty Nesters for couples whose children are growing and moving out and TranquiliTea, which
explores the rich diversity and history of tea and other related brewed drinks.
A visit to their studios reveals a creative thrum that is palpable. Sometimes the pace is frenetic with
deadlines approaching, sometimes quiet and concentrated with editors clicking and writers typing away on
the Macs that are everywhere. The atmosphere is often punctuated with songs from Sandy and Amy Lou’s
9-year-old daughter, Laney, a frequent visitor and a budding filmmaker herself. Says Sandy of working with
Bob Gibbons, “Bob and Reata were instrumental in facilitating the purchase of our building. We were
novices to the world of commercial real estate. We felt like we had a real advocate representing us in the
negotiations over the myriad of details involved in the transaction. With Bob on the case, we were able to
stay focused on video production and our company never missed a beat. Now that we’re seeing the
potential of outgrowing our current space, turning to Reata for help is an automatic response.”
